49.THE LADY OF VERIGE
There are two very old churches on Verige.
TheLady of the Angel (Lady of Verige) and the Lady of Rizi.
Guarding in their traditional place opposite to the Turkish cap.
The Lady of Verige church is on a prominent cliff by the stairs. A Hermit's place.
It faces the sea.
It was built with rough cut stones. Covered with stone slabs.
Even in the 16th.century a guard-house was added to the front of the Lady of the Angel. It was restored after the battle of Perast in 1654. To control Verige.
The church of the Lady of Verige belongs to the pre-baroque period. It has been protected with the isle St.George and the castle of Perast. The approach to Perast from the straits.
The church bell of St. Nicholas points at the axis of Verige. The Lady of Verige guards at the eastern cliff of the channel.
